Crash Course for Helpers, 101

Date: Thursday, Jun 3
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Location: Whiskers N Paws Workshop

Proceeds from this course will help support Hong Kong Animal Speak and the Buddy System!

“I thought Janice's talk was terrific - very informative and yet not too complicated.  Janice made the talk instructive, emphasizing the need for dogs to get their daily exercise - all done in the nicest way!  She also covered the basic anatomy and some signs to look for when a dog is not well. I thought it was a fabulous talk and would encourage anyone with dogs to enroll their Helper.  Go along too, you might learn something as well - I certainly did!”      -Fiona, dog owner and helper employer

Living in Hong Kong can be the best place to live if you're a beloved pet!  Dogs especially benefit from the loyal work and tender care of our helpers, who often walk, feed and frequently bring them for veterinary care.

We do our best to train our helpers about the ABC's of pet care, but we sometimes overlook certain challenges they might encounter whilst watching over our puppies and dogs.  That's why Whiskers N Paws has developed the ultimate courses to teach everything from the very basics to advanced concepts about proper dog care.  Check out our instructor, Janice Jensen, giving tips to helpers here!

About the Instructor - Janice Jensen of Hong Kong Animal Speak

Janice has worked with animals for as long as she can remember.  At the age of seven she was put to work helping to train her family's championship Siberian Huskies and her love for animals progressed from there.  Through the years Janice has worked with animals in many different capacities. From fostering and caring for severely injured animals to sitting on the Osceola County Humane Society in Florida, USA for five years, her passion for working to improve animal welfare continues.

Janice came to Hong Kong in 2004 and immediately started working with animal welfare and education programs and has spent the last two years as a Veterinary Assistant.  In 2007 she created her own Society called HK Animal Speak aimed at providing a place for free education, information and welfare for pets in HK. Although Janice is involved in many areas of animal welfare, her passion continues to be in the arena of behavior and socialization training -- which she has been doing for over 20 years!

As Janice says, "concern for animal welfare should always start in the home," therefore she feels it’s important to also train domestic helpers about proper veterinary care!
